Nefyn pull off Welsh Cup giantkilli­ng act

NEFYN United are into the first round proper after upsetting Mynydd Llandegai 7-4 in an absolute thriller.

Carl Jones (3), Steve Jones (2), Dylan Sion Jones and Iolo Jones scored the goals as United saw off their Welsh Alliance Division One opponents.

Penrhyndeu­draeth were on the receiving end of an a giant-killing as Les Davies hit four goals and Dylan Summers-Jones added a double as Bangor 1876 swept them aside 6-2 at Treborth with Steven Jones scoring both of the visitor’s goals.

No surprise at Llanrug United, where the home side overcame the challenge of Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League underdogs Llanfairfe­chan Town 5-0, Gavin Lloyd-Jones (2), Joni Sadler, Iwan Edwards and Kevin Lloyd splitting the goals.

Rob Daniels and Gavin Edwards earned Nantlle Vale a 2-1 win over Bodedern Athletic, who led through Callum Thomas.

Gethin Wakeham, Nidian Huws and Tomos Saynor guided Llanberis to a 3-1 result at St Asaph City and Meilir Williams marked his return from injury with a hat-trick as Blaenau Amateurs went through 4-2 at Mochdre Sports with Sion Aron Roberts also scoring for the visitors.

In the Welsh Alliance Division Two, Pwllheli beat Penmaenmaw­r Phoenix 3-1 thanks to a hattrick from Matty Jones while Iwan Owens also hit three in Y Felinheli’s 6-1 home win over Llandudno Amateurs.

Carwyn Dafydd and Rhodri Dafydd were also on target for the Gwynedd side.

Waunfawr pipped Talysarn Celts 3-2 with Meurig Parry (2) and Dylan Hughes scoring for the home side and Celt Owen with both for the visitors.

Ian Williams and James Ryan ensured Caergybi claimed a 2-1 victory over Llanystumd­wy which on the balance of play should have been much more emphatic with Sion Pierce replying for Llan.

Cai Penny Williams put Bontnewydd 1-0 up against Menai Bridge Tigers, but the Anglesey side rallied to win 3-1 thanks to an own goal, plus further efforts from Mitchell Jones and Kelvin Frazer.
