Ready for winter spectacular on Maes
AMBITION TO MAKE CHRISTMAS EVENT AN ANNUAL TRADITION
CAERNARFON will be turned into a winter wonderland for six weeks, starting later this year.
Regeneration group Hwb Caernarfon is organising the event that will take over the town’s Maes for six weeks.
This year, the group has been busy supporting local businesses and making the town a welcoming area through various events, such as setting up an art installation that featured multi-coloured brollies on Palace Street, as well as campaigning for the Rising Star Award for the most attractive street in the UK.
Gavin Owen, the manager of Caernarfon’s Business Improvement District, was thrilled to announce the community venture will host its very own Christmas festival on the town’s Maes.
“We have been organising this event for just over a year now,” he revealed.
“Years ago, I used to arrange buses to visit Christmas events in Liverpool and Manchester. But I always thought there was potential in Caernarfon to create our own, and this year, we can fulfil that.
“There has been a lot of hard work going behind this, but I am really excited and confident it will be a major success!”
The event will be in conjunction with Gwyl Fwyd food market and the Town Council’s Christmas lights switch-on ceremony.
It will also host school choir performances, a Santa’s grotto and a large ice rink.
Mr Owen said: “There will be an opportunity for businesses in the area and further afield to sponsor our ice rink.
“In November, the tourist season is usually over, but it will be the perfect opportunity to bring everyone together for six weeks, and to support our local business, economy and community.
The winter wonderland will run from November 21 until January 5
Mr Owen added: “We want to make it a well-known event in Caernarfon and the neighbouring areas, and we hope it will be a yearly thing.”
