Canaries on a high after Saints success

-

CAERNARFON Town were due to take on Connah’s Quay Nomads on Tuesday night on what promised to be one of the games of the season so far in the Cymru Premier.

These two sides threw up a number of good battles last season, as well as their 0-0 draw back in August, and much the same was expected on Tuesday night as second host third.

Nomads’ involvement in the Scottish Challenge Cup on Saturday could potentially have an impact on this one as they travelled to Glasgow to take on Partick Thistle.

Andy Morrison’s side were finalists in last season’s competition but they will go no further this time out thanks to a 2-0 defeat to Thistle.

With leaders Barry not in action this weekend, this is a great opportunity for either one of these sides to close the gap at the top.

The Canaries are now eight top-flight games without defeat thanks to a rousing performance against reigning champions The New Saints with almost 1,000 supporters once again packing out The Oval to witness the Friday night clash.

Last week’s win moved Sean Eardley’s side up to second spot before the weekend’s action and the Cofi boss was in confident mood heading into the Nomads clash.

Speaking to the Cofis’ YouTube channel, Eardley said: “There is a lot of emotion as it’s not every day you get a victory against TNS, so the lads have every right to enjoy their weekend but it’s back to work next week.

“The effort, hunger and desire shown by every one of them was second to none and they deserve every reward coming their way.

“I know it doesn’t mean anything at this stage but this is our highest position since coming into the league so we will enjoy it and it was another memorable night at The Oval.

“The game plan was to be brave and believe in the system, and the biggest satisfaction was that teams are beginning to watch us and the way we approach games now.

“We are aiming at the top six and want to be back there again, but it is a marathon not a sprint so I do think TNS will come good given the quality in their squad.

“We started brightly for the third game in a row and it proves just how crucial that is, because when you get the crowd behind you here for the entire game it really creates a special atmosphere.”
