- Owen Evans

AWOMAN was flown to hospital with “multiple injuries” after falling while out in Snowdonia.

Ogwen Valley Mountain

Rescue volunteers and the coastguard helicopter were called out after the woman fell around five metres from the Cneifion Arete on Sunday.

She was flown to hospital after being treated by first responders.

A spokesman for the mountain rescue team said: “The team were called out to reports of a solo female climber having fallen four to five metres from the Cneifion

Arete suffering multiple injuries.

“Due to the severity of the incident the coastguard helicopter was requested but already had a casualty on board so they initially dropped the winchman on site before taking their casualty to hospital.

“They returned and lifted a number of team members onto the hill to assist the winchman and, once treated and on the helicopter, she was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd for treatment.”

The incident was one of many for mountain rescue crews to deal with this weekend, with volunteers saying they dealt with “some extremely serious situations” during the period.

The coastguard helicopter also assisted a man who suffered a dislocated shoulder after falling on Glyder Fawr on Saturday.

He was winched from the Seniors Ridge and taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd.

On Sunday, South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team were called to reports a 50-year-old man had fallen from his mountain bike near Lake Vyrnwy and suffered pelvic injuries.

The air ambulance also assisted and the man was taken to hospital.

North East Wales Search and Rescue Team were also called out to help with a number of serious injuries this weekend.

On Saturday, they were called to help a young girl with a serious lower leg injury at Pistyll Rhaeader waterfall.

They transported her from the scene and handed her over to the care of the Wales Air Ambulance crew.

And on Sunday, the team were called to assist with a female mountain biker who had fallen while riding in the Berwyn mountains near Llandrillo.

A spokesman said: “Two team vehicles with team members responded.

“Fortunately we were able to use one of our landrovers to drive to the location and the casualty was quickly evacuated to Corwen for handover to the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust.”
