PLANT OF THE WEEK

-

HYDRANGEA ‘ANNABELLE’

I returned home from a short break to see great growth in the garden (including weeds, alas!).

It’s peak time for many hydrangeas of all descriptions and the mophead and lace cap varieties provide wonderful bursts of pink and purple that will last a considerable time.

But it is the soft pillowy mounds of white blossoms covering hydrangea Annabelle that are really stealing the show this week.

These shrubs are a few years old now and a not-too-heavy pruning in spring has resulted in really strong growth.

Recent hot weather means they will need watering to keep them looking lush and green.
