LEADERSHIP has become a hot topic as the behaviour of Prime Minister Boris Johnson has come under intense scrutiny. Hard questions are being asked about what’s expected of those in posts of responsibility.

As we look at the values and behaviour of someone else, It feels right that we don’t just expect public figures to show us how to behave, but that we also might want to align our own values with those we hope to see in others.

Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has recently written about how leadership is a corporate or shared responsibility. Referring to the current crisis in Afghanistan he’s encouraged faith leaders to do everything possible to encourage everyone to respond to the intense human need in that fractured and beautiful country. The plight of so many vulnerable people crying out for support is something we must not ignore.

Even if political differences make this really challenging, there ought to be enough common humanity to galvanise those of us who have enough to eat and a safe place of shelter to respond to the needs of those who don’t.

Taking a lead to act to help others, as individuals and as communities is really hard. When we examine our lives and the opportunities we’ve missed or the times we’ve made bad choices we may feel that many of us fail repeatedly, and perhaps we could all do better.

I’m heartened by words from the Bible, expressing trust in a God who longs for all to flourish and who gives each of us a new start every day:

The steadfast love of God never comes to an end. God’s mercies never cease, they’re new every morning.

Wrth inni edrych ar werthoedd ac ymddygiad rhywun arall, mae’n teimlo’n iawn nad ydym yn disgwyl i ffigurau cyhoeddus ddangos i ni sut i ymddwyn yn unig, ond y gallem hefyd fod eisiau alinio ein gwerthoedd ein hunain â’r rhai y gobeithiwn eu gweld mewn eraill. .

Mae’r cyn Brif Weinidog Gordon Brown wedi ysgrifennu’n ddiweddar am sut mae arweinyddiaeth yn gyfrifoldeb corfforaethol neu gyfrifoldeb a rennir. Gan gyfeirio at yr argyfwng presennol yn Afghanistan mae wedi annog arweinwyr ffydd i wneud popeth posib i annog pawb i ymateb i’r angen dynol dwys yn y wlad doredig a hardd honno. Mae cyflwr cymaint o bobl agored i niwed yn gweiddi am gymorth yn rhywbeth na ddylem ei anwybyddu. Hyd yn oed os yw gwahaniaethau gwleidyddol yn gwneud hyn yn wirioneddol heriol, dylai fod digon o ddynoliaeth gyffredin i symbylu’r rhai ohonom sydd â digon i’w fwyta a lle diogel o loches i ymateb i anghenion y rhai nad ydynt yn gwneud hynny.

Mae cymryd yr awenau i weithredu i helpu eraill, fel unigolion ac fel cymunedau yn anodd iawn. Pan fyddwn yn archwilio ein bywydau a’r cyfleoedd rydym wedi’u colli neu’r amseroedd rydym wedi gwneud dewisiadau gwael efallai y byddwn yn teimlo bod llawer ohonom yn methu dro ar ôl tro, ac efallai y gallem i gyd wneud yn well.

Mae geiriau o’r Beibl wedi fy nghalonogi, yn mynegi ffydd mewn Duw sy’n dyheu am i bawb ffynnu ac sy’n rhoi dechrau newydd i bob un ohonom bob dydd:

Nid oes terfyn ar gariad yr Arglwydd, ac yn sicr ni phalla ei dosturiaethau.

Y maent yn newydd bob bore, a mawr yw dy ffyddlondeb.
