Pregnant cat found taped up in box with no air holes

PIXIE NOW LOOKING FOR NEW HOME

- Amelia Shaw

ACAT who was taped inside a cardboard box and dumped outside a charity shop when she was pregnant is looking for a new home.

In September 2021 a volunteer for the Freshfields charity shop in Porthmadog found the female cat taped up inside a cardboard box with no air holes.

Next to the tortoiseshell cat, estimated to be around one year old, was a note which read “female, wild and not spayed”.

Having reported it to the Freshfields animal centre a member of staff went to collect the cat, who was said to be “frozen solid with fear” and “trembling”.

The cat, now known as Pixie, was visibly distressed and hid away under the blankets that the shelter had provided for her.

The next morning when the cattery staff went to feed Pixie, they discovered she had given birth to two tiny kittens.

Within half an hour she had given birth to a third and finally began feeding her litter.

The protective mother would lash out whenever the staff approached her or her babies.

Her kittens – Primrose, Pansy and Poppy – quickly found homes and Pixie began to show signs of wanting attention, head bumping the staff as they fed her.

A spokesperson for Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre said: “It was decided that after neutering, Pixie would go into foster to see how she would cope in a home setting.

“After a few teething issues with litter training, she really settled in and Pixie’s personality really began to shine; she would follow her foster carer around, wanting a fuss.

“She began playing with toys and liked to sit on her carer’s lap of an evening.

“Pixie has now returned to the cattery where she is now looking for her forever home.

“Poor Pixie has been through so much and is looking for an experienced home, where her new owners will understand that she may take a while to settle and that she can be a little defensive with claws at first. Because of this, a home with no children is needed.

“She would be OK to live with another easy-going cat.

“All Pixie needs is someone to give her a chance to settle in, the rewards of being patient with her are so amazing, she has so much love to give.”

If you’re able to give Pixie a home you can call the Wales centre on 01286 880808 or email wales@ freshfields.org.uk.
