Bangor City pull out of Cymru North... and face drop of at least two tiers next season

-

BANGOR City FC have said they have “no option” but to withdraw from the Cymru North League with immediate effect.

But the Citizens have pledged to return to senior football next season after securing ‘new players and investment’.

The club were suspended from all footballing activities by the Football Association of Wales back in November due to a dispute with staff over unpaid salaries.

Earlier last week, the FAW posted an update on their website confirming that the club would be expelled from the league if they failed to meet the criteria required to lift the club’s suspension by the deadline today.

But early Friday morning the club posted a statement on the Bangor City Football

Club Facebook page confirming the news but vowing to make the club “shine” again.

The statement read: “At Bangor City Football Club, we understand that we have no option but to withdraw from the JD Cymru League for the remainder of the season. We arrived to this decision due to the lack of registered players, which number is below the requirement to form a football team.

“Prior to the closing date of the latest registration period, we registered 13 new players who received an immediate ENTERED status, however they were not further confirmed by the FAW.

“Bangor City Football Club will return to play next season, regardless of the tier in which the FAW will allow the club to play.

“This will be possible thanks to the new players that are at the club’s disposal, the staff, fans and volunteers, but also thanks to the new investors who will support and guide this historic club through this new beginning.

“The Football Association of Wales was already informed about the club’s decision.

“We are hoping to see our loyal supporters and to welcome new faces. We wish that together, you and us, will make Bangor City Football Club shine again.”

As the club have failed to apply for licence to play in the Cymru Leagues next season, the highest level they can hope to play at is the fourth tier North Wales Coast West League. It remains to be seen whether they will be accepted into that division.
