Extra lorries for I’m a Celeb slate quarry

-

PLANS to nearly double the number of heavy lorries allowed to travel to and from a Gwynedd slate quarry have been given the green light.

Two applications had been submitted to Gwynedd Council to vary the number of lorries using the Moel Tryfan quarry near Caernarfon from 25 to 45 each week.

The quarry site was seen by millions of television viewers last November when the nearby Alexandra Quarry was used in the opening challenge undertaken by contestants in the popular ITV programme I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here.

The committee heard the proposal was “absolutely critical to the company’s future economic contribution”.

The quarry makes a “direct and significant contribution to the local economy” employing up to 11 workers.

Proposing the applications be approved Cllr Owain Williams told the virtual meeting that the company had a positive impact on the local community.

The application was approved, subject to conditions, unanimously with no councillor against the proposal and no abstentions.
