Man took his own life after messaging other woman

FIANCEE SAID HE WAS ‘DOWN IN THE DUMPS’ AFTER HIS ADMISSION TO HER

- David Powell

APLUMBER took his own life after contacting his fiancee to say he had been messaging another woman.

Paul John Lomas was discovered unresponsive in a garage by his father.

An inquest at Caernarfon heard how on July 21 last year the 30-year old had driven his van to his father’s house at Wern Farm in Bethel as normal. But he had gone into a garage at the back of the property.

Sarah Riley, Assistant Coroner for North West Wales, was told how that day Paul’s best friend, Carwyn Hughes, had rung his dad Brian to ask if he knew where Paul was, which Brian thought was unusual.

He became concerned and found his son hanged in the garage at around 9.30pm.

He immediately administered CPR and the emergency services were called. But despite their best efforts he couldn’t be saved and was pronounced dead at 10.12pm.

The hearing was told how shortly before his death Paul had been seen by a workmate sitting in his van with his head in his hands.

He also was heard asking ‘What the f*** have I done?”

Paul had been engaged to Linzi Whitmore, with whom he had three children.

He had called her to say he had been messaging another woman.

Ms Whitmore said Paul had rung her three times on the day he died and seemed “down in the dumps”.

She said Paul had been sending messages to another woman.

But she said: “Paul had strong feelings about suicide. He felt that people who took their own lives were selfish.

“He had just started a business with my brother. He was over the moon. They had chosen personalised uniforms.

“We had a new front door and windows. He had plans. He was succeeding.”

In a statement Paul’s father said that July 10 had been the anniversary of the death of his wife.

But he added: “I don’t know what came over him to do this. He had just started a new business a month ago.”

He added: “He had not planned to do this but something had changed him.

“The humiliation of the photographs of a sexual nature that he sent to another woman had been too much for him.”

A pathologist found Paul died from hanging.

The assistant coroner said: “Given the method adopted by Paul, and the fact he was in the garage on his own, I am satisfied that Paul intended death to be a consequence of his actions.

“My conclusion today is one of suicide.”
