ENHANCED BUS SERVICE FOR YR WYDDFA AT PEAK TIMES

-

A REVAMPED Snowdon Sherpa operation will offer walkers and climbers an enhanced bus service this summer.

At weekends, school holidays and bank holidays buses will operate between the car park at Nant Peris and Pen y Pass every 15 minutes.

Pen y Pass is the starting point for two of the most popular paths up Yr Wyddfa/ Snowdon.

But the car park at this point is one of the smallest in the Snowdonia National Park.

Gwynedd Council and Snowdonia National Park Authority officials hope the enhanced services will ease parking problems in the area.

The revamped service, due to start on April 9 and run until the end of September, will also connect Bangor, Caernarfon and Llanrwst with Pen y Pass.

A new service will also be operated by the Ogwen Partnership between Bethesda and Ogwen Cottage.

The S1 service will now operate between Caernarfon, Llanberis and Betws y Coed while the S2 will run from Bangor to Llanberis and Pen y Pass.

The S3 will operate from Beddgelert to Caernarfon and Dinorwic while the S4 will run from Pen y Pass to Beddgelert and Porthmadog.

The S5 is the new service from Llanberis and Nant Peris to Pen y Pass.

A Snowdonia National Park Authority spokesperson said there is adequate parking in Llanberis with easy to access shuttle buses which run regularly up to Pen y Pass via the car park in Nant Peris.

Officials do not recommend parking in laybys in the Llanberis Pass (Cromlech area), as this area can become quickly congested and has no facilities.

“We would also advise people not to attempt to walk on the road up to or down from the Pen Y Pass car park.

“The A4086 is a narrow winding roadway with no pavement and carries high volumes traffic including buses, cars and commercial vehicles,” the spokesperson added.

The standard parking rate for a whole day in Llanberis is £5, although this may vary depending on the choice of car park.

Snowdon Sherpa Day ticket costs £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. Concessionary travel passes issued in Wales are also accepted.
