Shock as boy, 14, filmed being beaten at school by bullies
VIDEO SHOWS PUPIL BEING WHIPPED WITH BELT AND PELTED WITH BASKETBALLS
AN outraged family has shared sickening footage of their 14-year-old son being bullied at school.
The video shows the pupil cowering in an alcove inside Ysgol Brynrefail, Llanrug while other pupils appear to whip him with a belt and fire basketballs at him. The bullies can be heard swearing, and then heartlessly laughing at the boy when they realise he is crying.
The pupil’s ordeal ends when another student intervenes, approaching the victim to comfort him, as the perpetrators walk away laughing. Amy Jones, from Llanrug, felt no choice but to release the footage as she felt the Gwynedd secondary school wasn’t doing enough to tackle the problem. She said: “I am outraged at the bullying of my son, he has missed school due to anxiety but yet they complain of his low attendance.”
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said it was aware of the incident and the school was “dealing with the matter in accordance with their procedures”.
But Amy doesn’t feel her concerns were treated seriously enough: “Prior to this incident, I contacted Ysgol Brynrefail with concerns for his welfare and the governors told me they were led to believe that bullying had been reduced, but after viewing the footage they are (now) concerned.”
Amy claimed her son had been targeted before at the school: “He was previously punched to the head several times, when he fell to the floor his head was stamped on.
“I have requested counselling from the school as a recommendation from our GP, to no avail. Nothing has been put in place.
“With my background in work and studying to be a solicitor, I am aware of the detrimental effect these assaults can have on a victim. But more so, as a mother this breaks my heart to view such abuse on my child, by children older and twice his size.
“As a family we are aware of the repercussions that can occur with physical assault. It only takes one punch.”
Amy said other parents had showed their support after she posted the clip on Facebook.
She added: “I am disappointed with the lack of support from the school and the school governors.
“Pupils need to be educated on the schools antibullying policies that are currently in place, although clearly not being adhered to.
“God forbid he had suffered a serious head injury. After all the trauma to his head, we would be looking at a completely different situation.”
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “The wellbeing of all Gwynedd pupils is our priority. We urge any pupil or parent who has concerns about bullying to discuss them directly with their school so that any concerns can be addressed immediately.”
