POLICE ALSO ARREST 26-YR-OLD AFTER SHOCKING ‘GANG ATTACK’ AS THEY TREATED INJURED MAN

- Alex Whilding

TWO North Wales Police officers were attacked by a gang while trying to treat an injured man in the street.

The shocking incident happened on Tuesday night last week in the centre of Penygroes.

North Wales Police were called to the “medical emergency” on the village’s Water Street around 7.45pm where they found a man with head injuries.

But as two officers started giving first aid to the victim, they were approached by a large group of people.

And according to the force, some members of the gang then proceeded to launch shocking physical attacks and hurled abuse at the officers while they tried to treat the casualty.

A man and a child have both been arrested following the sickening incident.

According to North Wales Police, a 26-yearold man was detained for a public order offence and assaulting an emergency service worker while a 13-yearold child was arrested for assaulting an emergency service worker.

Both of them have since been released by police pending further enquiries.

North Wales Police expressed their disappointment that the issue of emergency service workers being assaulted had “come to the fore again.” Insp Arwel Hughes said: “For emergency service workers to be subject to this level of verbal and physical abuse is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Our enquiries are ongoing.”
