MURDER TRIAL DATE TO BE FIXED ON FRIDAY AFTER LEGAL DELAYS
THE trial of a man accused of murdering his businessman dad has been delayed. Tony Thomas (above right), from Penrhyndeudraeth, had been due to be tried over the death of former GEWS director Dafydd Thomas (above left) on Monday, April 25.
But legal teams in a preliminary hearing at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday last week said they are not yet ready to proceed.
The judge His Honour Rhys Rowlands adjourned the case until this Friday, April 29 for a “mention” hearing so a trial date can be fixed.
Barristers for the prosecution and defence held discussions over their respective issues.
The date of a trial was also mooted and the legal experts suggested it might be in October or even later, depending on the availability of all parties.
Tony Thomas, 45, of Minffordd near Penrhyndeudraeth, who appeared virtually at Mold Crown Court, is accused of the murder of his father Dafydd Thomas, a 65-yearold grandfather and wellknown businessman, on March 25, 2021.
The court heard that he may wish to give his evidence in Welsh, with a simultaneous translation, when the trial starts.
