New jobs pledge in climbing firm’s plan

-

A NEW industrial building at a climbing equipment firm in a Gwynedd village could support 20-25 jobs.

Plans for the new structure were submitted to Gwynedd Council for consideration last week.

DMM is based at the Glyn Industrial estate near Llanberis (pictured above) and the longestablished firm makes karabiners, harnesses and other items for climbers. It exports a large proportion of its products around the world.

The proposal is described as a “modest building set on the applicant’s existing factory premises”.

Documents filed in support of the application note the work is required in order to” allow for general improvements in the standard of facilities available to the business on its site and for sustainable investment into the operation’s machinery and processes.”

“This should allow for an increase in employment across the business, with 20-25 full time equivalent positions to be supported by this building alone,” the document adds.

DMM currently operates out of a large factory building and other associated smaller buildings with some other operations conducted elsewhere within larger industrial estate.

The application adds: “This building would be set on what was an existing informal storage area that had a hardsurfaced finish, and which is open onto the yard area set between the site and two smaller buildings forming part of the Applicant’s cluster of buildings in this part of the industrial estate.

“The new building would replace the previously consented one, and has been proposed in order to allow for an improved and expanded storage area for the Applicant to store stock on the upper floor, then undertake assembly on the ground floor.”

Gwynedd Council planning officers are currently considering the proposals.
