Man to face trial next year over death of father
A MAN accused of murdering his father is to be tried next year.
Tony Thomas, 45, denies the offence against well-known businessman Dafydd Thomas.
A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court heard that the trial is likely to last at least three weeks. He fixed a date of Monday, January 9, 2023 for it to start at Mold Crown Court.
At yesterday’s preliminary hearing the defendant, of Minffordd, Penrhyndeudraeth, appeared via video link from custody.
He listened as the prosecution and defence barristers held legal discussions about the case. Prosecutor Elwen Evans said there was a possibility that the trial might run slightly longer than three weeks.
Judge His Honour Rhys Rowlands set the date for the trial and ordered that the defendant continue to be remanded in custody until January.
Thomas is accused of the murder of his father Dafydd Thomas, a 65-year-old grandfather and well-known businessman, on March 25, 2021.
The court heard that he may wish to give his evidence in Welsh, with a simultaneous translation, when the trial starts.
