Pensioner accused of causing death by dangerous driving
‘AMAZING TREASURE’ KILLED IN COLLISION AS HE STOOD BESIDE HIS BROKEN-DOWN CAR
A PENSIONER has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving after a 74-year-old man was killed in a collision with a car.
But Malcolm Pook, 72, of Llanaelhaearn, on the Llŷn Peninsula, was unable to appear before magistrates at Caernarfon on Thursday last week after taking ill.
The case was adjourned until May 19.
The allegation listed against him was that on February 19 last year, on the A499 at Gyrn Goch, he caused the death of Eric Bergqvist by driving a Kia Sportage dangerously.
An inquest opening was told Mr Bergqvist, of Bryn Ffynnon, Gryn Goch, had been standing by his broken down car when the tragedy occurred.
No details of the criminal case were outlined in court.
In a statement released by Mr Bergqvist’s family at the time of his death, they described him as “an amazing treasure” and a “beloved taid”.
They said: “Dad, grandad, partner, family member
or friend – However you knew him, Eric was an amazing treasure to have in your life and everyone is deeply shocked by his sudden loss. His grandchildren cannot imagine
never being able to see their beloved Taid again and his partner Gretta says he was her anchor and she doesn’t know what she will do without him.”
