DOCTOR’S NOTE
Scientists have discovered a protein that could protect the brain against the onset of Parkinson’s disease.
The disease is usually caused by a number of different genetic and environmental factors, meaning it’s not possible to find a single gene that is responsible for the condition. However, scientists have discovered that a certain protein in the brain can help protect against damage, meaning Parkinson’s is less likely to develop.
Researchers at the University of Geneva hope their work will help the development of new drugs that could prevent Parkinson’s from causing further deterioration to the brain.
