THE TALK OF ABERSOCK

Spoof poster for Jubilee has some fooled online

-

A SPOOF poster promoting a fake Jubilee celebration weekend in Abersoch has appeared on social media which was so “on the ball” that it even had locals believing it.

The poster was first posted on the parody Twitter page @SetCheshire on May 14.

The poster advertised “jubilee weekend events” from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5, which is when the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years on the throne.

The village’s name was spelt “Abersock” on the poster in a play on the way some visitors pronounce it.

The event is jokingly sponsored by “Abersock Holiday Homes LTD - two is always better than one” - an apparent reference to the second home crisis plaguing the area.

The spoof poster also says that survival expert Bear Grylls, who owns St Tudwals island just south of Abersoch, and Welsh singer Aled Jones will make an appearance at the Grand Jubilee Finale Firework Display held on the beach at The Warren, with the latter jokingly said to be performing “God Save the Queen” to close the night.

Local shops, pubs and restaurants have been named on the poster promoting the non-event with a spin in their name such as Vaynol as opposed to The Vaynol and Apres Sun as opposed to Apres Sea.

One person commented: “It’s a parody that is so on the ball, as a Pen Llŷn native, it’s so on point, so accurate. So funny when people miss the joke!”

However, not everyone got the joke, with some leaving a comment with the correct spelling of the town name. One person said: “Is this a real poster? If it is, disgraceful.”
