Canaries stay a point clear

-

CAERNARFON piled further misery on winless Airbus UK Broughton in the Play-off Conference with a 2-0 away victory.

For the first hour the hosts were a match for the Canaries – though the visitors had the better chances and saw a Sion Bradley strike ruled out for offside

Robert Hughes broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on 67 minutes after Bradley was brought down in the box.

Joe Faux, returning after suspension, got the second seven minutes later to seal the points and keep Caernarfon a point ahead of nearest rivals Haverfordwest in the playoff race.

Haverfordwest beat Flint Town 3-1, Rhys Abbruzzese setting them on their way with the opener in the sixth minute: Jordan Davies doubled the advantage.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro pulled one back for Flint five minutes before halftime, but Ben Fawcett sealed the win for the Bluebirds with a third goal in the sixth minute of time added on.

Aberystwyth Town and Pontypridd United shared the points after a six-goal thriller at Park Avenue.

Remarkably, there were no goals until David Evans put the hosts ahead two minutes before half time.

Mark Cadwallader made it 2-0 on 73 minutes before a crazy finale.

Owain Jones pulled one back for Pontypridd nine minutes from time before Cadwallader restored the hosts’ two-goal advantage and seemingly settled the match on 87 minutes.

But Pontypridd refused to lie down and they were rewarded for their spirit as Tom Davies made it 3-2 on 89 minutes and David Vincent levelled in the fifth minute of injury time.

● In the championship, anyone who thought The New Saints might be vulnerable after their first JD Cymru Premier League defeat of the season at Cardiff Met should think again.

The JD Cymru Premier champions are now only eight points away from a record-breaking 15th title after their 1-0 home win over Newtown. Secondplaced Connah’s Quay Nomads drew 1-1 at home with Bala Town.

Defender Ryan Astles scored the only goal of the game at the end of the first half at Park Hall as he headed home an inch-perfect Marriott cross.

That allowed TNS to move 17 points clear at the top.

Connah’s Quay Nomads drew at home to Bala Town, despite playing with 10 men for nearly an hour.

Jack Kenny put the hosts ahead after 14 minutes but then saw Harry Franklin sent off on 36 minutes.

Bala eventually made their numerical advantage tell when Adam Roscrow grabbed the equaliser 14 minutes from time.

But the visitors couldn’t force a winner so The New Saints increased their advantage at the top.

A week on from inflicting The New Saints’ first defeat of the season, Cardiff Met fell to a 2-1 defeat at Penybont. Substitute Ryan Reynolds opened the scoring three minutes before the break and Nathan Wood sealed the win with an 89thminute penalty.

Emlyn Lewis’ goal in the eighth minute of time added on proved to be only a consolation as the hosts leapfrogged the students to take third place in the Championship Conference.
