thought for the week

-

Made for something great.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not a big fan of crowds. Being amongst vast numbers of people for an extended length of time is not my preferred environment. Camping in steady rainfall on a cramped London pavement? Not for me.

Yet thousands of people did just that in order to be part of the historic event which was the coronation of King Charles 111 last weekend.

Clearly, this demonstrates a strong desire to experience something momentous, something spectacular, something exciting and moreover, to share that very visceral occasion with likeminded people.

That is something I can relate to. People all around the world seek ways to belong to something greater than themselves and to find places of connection.

I believe that it’s an innate part of being human, of God’s plan for us to be in relationship not only with Him, but also with one another. For me that’s what the church is - a worldwide community of people who follow Jesus, who worship God and who seek not to be served but to serve. Now does that sentiment sound familiar?

King Charles himself promised just that as the nation’s new monarch, echoing not only his mother’s words, but the words of Jesus Christ himself.

For me it resonates again with the belief that we are created for more than just our own selfinterest.

God’s community here on earth has existed for more than 2000 years; there’s something solid, spectacular and meaningful about that.

Being part of church is a connection not only to God, but also my part in His amazing plan for me as I stand alongside those with whom I share life on Anglesey, but also the millions of people globally. Karen Sadler
