M&C Saatchi raids Burnett for creatives

- By Simon Gwynn

M&C Saatchi has hired Leo Burnett creative director Matt Lee as joint deputy executive creative director.

Lee will work alongside Mark Goodwin, who has been promoted to the same role. Goodwin was previously creative director and joined the agency in 2000.

The pair will report to chief creative officer Justin Tindall, who joined from Leo Burnett only last year.

Lee is the third person Tindall has poached from the Publicis Groupe agency this month. Phillip Meyler and Darren Keff have joined as creative directors, five years after Tindall recruited them at Leo Burnett.

Lee has spent most of his career working with creative partner Pete Heyes. They met in 1998 at DFGW, which was absorbed into Freud Communications in 2007. Heyes is staying in his role at Leo Burnett.

The pair’s accolades include two golds at Cannes Lions and two gold British Arrows for the Marmite “Neglect” campaign they created while at Adam & EVE/DDB.
