Wrasse fish farm:

AR: ‘We need to keep a balance, while the proposal would bring jobs we would like to see it go ahead but we do not want Marine Harvest (MH) to have carte blanche.

‘Whoever is elected as MSP will not have powers to enact over the proposed site, but we can voice the communities concerns.’

JF: ‘It is a lot of jobs and income, but it is a compromised site. You only get one shot at a greenfield site and the factory looks imposing to me. The Greens want to see no more caged salmon.

‘If there is a way to use an alternative site it should be looked at.’

MRus: ‘I am sceptical. The wrasse are extremely important for the salmon industry, and 10 jobs are not to be scoffed at, but 10 jobs in a place the size of a Tesco Superstore?

‘I have written to MH to remind them the community should be considered in detail as it is a very important site.’

DC: ‘I did not know about the cultural importance of the Gauldrons and I do not know about the specifics of this site, but with proposals like this it is generally a jobs vs site situation.

‘Ultimately the planning decision should be taken by the community.’

MRic: ‘Campbeltown is one of the most vulnerable rural towns in Scotland.

It must diversify its economy in order to survive.’

JS: ‘The economy is important in rural areas where there are not so many opportunities. The best thing to do is guide developers to sites the community wants it to use.

‘It is important to remember that the environment is one of the main reasons people come to Scotland.’

Floor: ‘The community is not against development, it is against the site. MH have not looked at MACC properly.

‘Engineers have built tunnels under the sea since the ‘50s, it is hard to believe MH could not manage it in 2016.

‘The wider benefits must impact less than the negatives.’

‘The benefits delivered must also be credible in the long term, assurances must be tangible and real, and be shown to be better than the alternatives.’
