Enjoyable and challenging campaign
Sir, Although it was one of the final results of what was a very long night, it was really exciting to learn at about 7.15am that I had been elected as an MSP for the Highlands and Islands.
On a national level, I am delighted to be part of the Scottish Conservative revival across the country, which saw us become the official opposition to the SNP, under Ruth Davidson’s dynamic leadership.
The election in Argyll and Bute was both enjoyable and challenging in equal measure. The hustings hosted across the constituency were a wonderful opportunity to meet voters and listen to their concerns.
I congratulate Mike Russell on his victory, and thank him and the other candidates for what was an engaging yet courteous campaign.
As a regional MSP, I sincerely hope that I can continue to be involved in the Argyll and Bute area, and help residents of every political allegiance, or none, with the challenges they face in their daily lives.
The issues of mobile/ broadband connectivity, road infrastructure, and the plight of our crofting, farming and fishing communities all require urgent attention.
We must ensure that we reverse predicted depopulation here and attract the jobs and investment to rural areas which are so critical to the local economy. Donald Cameron MSP, The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh.
