Schools pipe band blasts its way to second place

-

YOUNG PIPERS playing at their first major competition landed an incredible runner-up position.

Competing in Paisley last Saturday at the British Championships, the Kintyre Schools Pipe Band’s Novice B band and 3A band both took to the field for the opening major of the season, with the Novice band taking an impressive second place.

Early start

All had an early start as they set off at 6am to the new venue for the championships, and capes were at the ready as clouds and rain darkened the skies. They were soon discarded, when bright sunshine and warm breezes appeared overhead.

Both bands were competing in new grades. The Novice B band, made up of many youngsters who were playing in a major competition for the very first time, played expertly and took second best Novice B Pipe Band in Britain.

The result delighted the youngsters, their tutors and the many supporters who had travelled with the bands. The 3A band members also came home with silverware, when they were awarded sixth place in their category.

The bands are now in fine mood for their next competitions, with the 3A band travelling to Belfast in June to take part in the UK Championships.

Both bands are competing at Helensburgh Games on Sunday June 19. They will be taking to streets in Campbeltown on the evening of Saturday June 4.
