Round-up from Dunaverty Golf Club

-

DUNAVERTY Golf Club’s Centenary trophy had a smaller competitive field as many players were drawn away by a different sport.

Due to the Scottish and English cup finals last Saturday, the entry for the annual event was lower than expected.

The morning players struggled in the strong winds, while the afternoon players had to contend with wind and rain.

David Irwin produced the best round of the day by recording an impressive gross score of 69 to leave him with a net score of 64, one better than Kenny Cameron.

Result: 1: David Irwin, 69-5-64; 2: Kenny Cameron, 74-9-65; 3: Ross Sinclair, 71-5-66; 4: Harry MacLean, 7710-67 (bih); 5: Campbell MacBrayne, 758-67 (bih); 6: Andrew Robertson, 77-10-67 (bih).

At the beginning of May, Dunaverty’s Texas scramble produced a very close result with the top three teams covered by just 0.9 of a stroke.

Campbell MacBrayne with brothers Donald and Hamish Taylor were first in with a net 57.8, achieved despite very strong winds.

Next came Harry MacLean, Steven Garrett and Neil Brodie on 58.6.

Eagle

The weather did not improve for the afternoon players, but the pensioners team of Sandy Watson, Alastair Brown and Bill Brannigan, helped by a Watson eagle at the 13th and a chip in birdie at the 15th by Alistair, and Bill sinking a crucial putt on the 18th, managed to snatch a win by 0.1 of a stroke.

Result: 1: Sandy Watson, Alastair Brown, Bill Brannigan, 63-5.357.7; 2: Donald Taylor, Hamish Taylor, Campbell MacBrayne, 62-4.2-57.8; 3: Harry MacLean, Steven Garrett, Neil Brodie, 645.4-58.6.
