Alastair rallies for a good cause

-

A MID Argyll man was among around 50 tractor drivers supporting a charity rally in the Outer Hebrides.

The North Uist tractor rally was held on May 28 in memory of local girl Ellie MacDonald, who died in 2014 after a short battle with cancer, aged just 23.

Argyll was represented in the form of Lochgilphead’s Alastair Dixon for Hamilton Brothers, while Argyll Agricultural Engineers, Oban, also sent over tractors in support of the rally.

North Uist Agricultural Society, led by secretary Joan Ferguson, organised the event for the 1 Million Miles for Ellie charity, which raises money for Cancer Research UK, Maggie’s Centres and MacMillan Cancer Support.

The rally was a major part of a fun-filled day at Hosta, with plenty of activities for children and adults alike. The colourful rally stopped at Clachan, Lochmaddy and Sollas to allow engines to cool off before heading back to the main event at Hosta - and a hugely enjoyable day was rounded off, naturally, with an evening ceilidh.

Joan Ferguson said: ‘North Uist Agricultural Society would like to thank everyone who made the tractor rally such a huge success. The amazing sum of £5,200 was raised for 1 Million Miles for Ellie.’

Ellie’s mum Michelle was delighted with the day, adding: ‘Great fun, great people, great community spirit, all round great day.’

As she offered thanks to Joan and the society as well as everyone who came along and helped, Michelle added: ‘It was a day full of friendship, community and laughter heartfelt thanks again to you all - our journey together is truly an amazing and humbling one.’
