DUNAVERTY and Machrihanish Golf clubs have had a busy summer season so far, including an incredible hole-in-one.
McCallum clinches Dunaverty July medal
CAMPBELL McCallum took full advantage of benign conditions to grab the Dunaverty July medal.
First out in the morning, he returned a card which contained eight threes and a two to fetch a handsome scratch score of 63 and a winning nett of 59.
Second best scratch was Stuart MacBrayne on 72. CSS for the day was 63.

Junior golfers frolic at fun day
FUTURE Open champions on their school holidays enjoyed glorious sunshine as they pitched up to Dunaverty Golf Club’s annual children’s fun day.
Taking place on Tuesday July 5, 18 enthusiastic children arrived at lunchtime aged between five and 13 years to play in various golfing skill tests and activities.
The competition included a nine-hole, five-hole and flag event for beginners, chipping and putting.
A spokesperson for the club said: ‘Well done to all the children and many thanks to the parents and volunteers for helping on the day.’

Young MacBrayne follows mother’s footsteps
THE JUNIOR championship was held at Dunaverty where all competitors contested an 18-hole competition. Held on Tuesday July 12, the winner of the scratch trophy was Fraser MacBrayne, who showed the apple does not fall far from the tree after his mother won the ladies championship last month.
Connor McMurchy finished runner-up.
Ladies captain Mrs Florence Chrystie presented the prizes and thanked the boys for their participation.
Dunes come out on top of cross-club competition
THE ANNUAL friendly match between Machrihanish Dunes and Dunaverty saw the Dunes take the bragging rights.
Held last Friday, two teams of eight faced off that resulted in a three-one win for the Dunes.
The match also served as a farewell to Keith Martin, who is moving to take up the post of club manager at Kilspindie Golf club in East Lothian.
A spokesperson for Dunaverty said: ‘From his first appointment as assistant head greenkeeper at the Dunes, Keith maintained a very close relationship with Dunaverty and greenkeepers David Scullion and Willy MacMillan.
‘Keith eventually rose to the position of general manager at the Dunes and was instrumental in bringing the course into the top 100 in the world.
‘We wish him well in his new appointment.’
