Pipe bands’ Cowal success

-

KINTYRE schools pipe bands finished up their competitive season in style at the Cowal Highland Games.

KINTYRE schools pipe bands rounded off their competitive season with several titles at one of the most prestigious events of the year.

Leaving the town early, as usual, the Nov- ice Juvenile B and 3A groups were greeted by glorious sunshine when they arrived in Dunoon for the Cowal Highland games.

Both bands were pleased with their performances, but few expected the wonderful results which were to follow.

The Novice Juvenile Band won their grade and were also awarded the best turned-out juvenile band. The 3A band also won both the medley and MSR in their grade.

Ian Campbell was placed third in the adult drum majors.

The strong end to the competitive season was a fitting finale for Tommy Blue, who was attending his last competition as the bands’ tenor drum tutor.

A spokesperson for the group said that Tommy will be sorely missed, having been with the band since it was first formed, but the group hope that he will continue to come along and support the bands in the future.

The bands are now on holiday until the end of October but will dust down their pipes to perform at Campbeltown Highland Games on Saturday September 24. The spokesperson added: ‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for all their support and encouragement throughout the season.’
