Diner’s doors swing open

COFFEE beans are now brewing in a new café at the Sound of Kintyre.

BUILDINGS and properties normally shut to the public will reveal their interiors for two days only.

Argyll’s Doors Open Days, part of a European Heritage Days initiative, is on Saturday and Sunday September 24 and 25.

The event is being coordinate­d by South Kintyre Developmen­t Trust (SKDT), with the theme innovation, architectu­re and design.

SKDT Trust manager Zena Coffield said: ‘We are sure Doors Open Days will entice visitors to explore Argyll from the Isle of Bute to the tip of Kintyre peninsula. It features many new venues including buildings by architect Henry Edward Clifford, castles, a gaol and a superb garden filled with sculptures.

‘This may be a once in a lifetime opportunit­y for some and should not be missed.’

Councillor Aileen Morton, Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for sustainabl­e economic growth ,said: ‘It allows the council and its partners to showcase the area and South Kintyre Developmen­t Trust has done a great job in pulling together a varied programme.’

The following venues will open for free: Campbeltow­n: the Town Hall, The Club, Main Street, Glen Scotia distillery, St Kiaran’s Scottish Episcopal Church, the Backpacker­s, Springbank distillery, The Community Orchard and Garden, the Old Gaol and Police Station. Kintyre: An Ceardach Garden, Peninver, Torrisdale Castle, Dunaverty Hall and Post Office, Royal Castle of Tarbert. Inveraray: Argyll Archives, Inveraray Bell Tower and Nichol Hall. Bute: Lodge Rothesay St John No. 292 and United Church of Bute.
