Opening day defeat for young Pupils in Scottish Cup

-

CAMPBELTOWN Pupils U15s had a disappointing start to the new season as they were put out of the Scottish Cup in the first round.

The game kicked off on the 3G pitch at Kinloch last Saturday, with the home team looking stronger early on and enjoying most of the possession.

The young Pupils could not turn their dominance into goals, with their best effort cannoning back off the crossbar.

Albion held on and started to grow in confidence, with one shot fired just past McKellar’s right hand post before half-time.

The first half finishing level, but the second half was a much more evenly balanced affair, with both teams working hard to try to gain the upper hand.

Albion eventually broke the deadlock to take the lead, despite the Pupils having looked comfortable at the back.

Worse was to come when more slack defensive play saw Albion break and notch a second to extend their lead.

The youngsters showed grit to get back into the game and, after being awarded a free kick just inside the Rovers half, the Pupils pulled one back.

A great delivery from Pupils’ keeper McKellar met the head of Souden who powered home to get the side back within touching distance.

Time ultimately beat the Pupils though and the game finished with disappointment for the home side.

The U15s will be hoping for a better result when they start their league campaign next weekend away to Giffnock.
