Rubbish deal for Islay tax payers

-

Sir, Are you aware that since August 2006 council tax payers on Islay have had a fortnightly uplift of their general waste bins?

Meanwhile the council taxpayers in Kintyre were still receiving a weekly uplift their general waste bins.

I am very annoyed about this as I pay the same council tax per my tax band as a person living in Kintyre but I receive an inferior service from Argyll and Bute Council

We were sold down the river by Councillor Robin Currie, as at a hustings meeting in April 2007, in Bowmore Hall, he could not remember whether he voted in favour of Islay residents having a fortnightly general waste bin collection imposed on them in August 2006.

Even Councillor McAlpine admitted that he voted against the introduction.

According to a FOI request, the vote was taken by a show of hands and which councillors were in favour and against was not written down.

In my opinion, the council taxpayers on Islay should receive a reduction in their council tax or the council taxpayers in Kintyre should pay a surcharge on their council tax as a result of receiving a superior general waste bin collection service.

It will be time to join the real world on Monday October 3 for Kintyre council taxpayers. Douglas W Tott, Stoneyburn, Bruichladdich.
