Family friendly festival will hit the high notes
IN JUST one week’s time Tarbert will shake, rattle and roll as its 28th Music Festival choruses into town.
During the three day event, run since 1988, which went down a storm last year visitors and locals rock around one of the West Highland’s most picturesque harbours, at a variety of venues, hosting music ranging from trad to blues and even some jamming.
With no charge for tickets to see bands it is a pure treat for music lovers.
Headliners trad band Mànran and local support act the Democrats will ensure the Quay is pumping, from 2pm till 6pm, on Sunday, but before that there is loads to slake a musical thirst.
In addition Fèis an Tairbeirt’s first traditional music and dance workshop will be held on Saturday September 17 during the Festival.
This will be a great opportunity for youngsters to enjoy a day of dance, music, stories and song. And there is still time to book.
The expert tutors are members of one of Scotland’s best bands, Mànran.
A spokesperson for Mànran said: ‘We are delighted that members of the band are involved teaching at Fèis an Tairbeirt this year and really looking forward to Mànran’s first performance at the festival.
‘Argyll is one of Scotland’s hotspots for traditional music festivals and never fails to disappoint when faced with the chance to party.’
The action starts on Friday September 16 with Shenanigans at The Corner House from 9pm to 12.30pm, Lush Puppies at the Tarbert Hotel, None the Wiser and the Keelies are at the Islay Frigate Hotel, 2 Bob Rocket at the Anchor from 9pm till late and The Democrats warm-up for their Sunday gig by rocking The Victoria on Friday and Saturday night.
On Saturday afternoon the Tarbert Hotel welcomes The Skunnered and Matt McAllister, whose memorial video for his friend Scott has 63,000 Facebook views. Later Dr Hip and the Blues collection play the same venue.
The Corner House has a monster Saturday session from 2pm till 12.30am with Shenanigans and Done ‘N Dusted.
The Anchor’s Saturday line-up starts with Cousin Hilifax from 2pm to 6pm followed by another helping of 2 Bob Rocket from 9pm to late.
The Keelies return at the Islay Frigate Hotel and are joined by Signal Fires.
Remember if 116 boats and crews, in 2015, thought Tarbert Music Festival was worth the sail it must be worth a trip up the road.
