Campbeltown Town Hall project scoops prestigious national award
At the awards presentation last week were Barry Colville, Lindsay Colville, Sandy Wilkie, Eric Spence, Claire McFadzean, Graeme Turner, Zena Coffield and Alan Baker. THI manager James Lafferty, who is missing from the photograph, was not at the evening.
THE TEAM behind the restoration of one of Campbeltown’s most iconic buildings has seen the venue become an award-winner.
South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) was handed the brand new Judges’ Award at the prestigious Herald Property Awards for Scotland, held at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza last week.
The glitzy evening was hosted by comedian Des Clarke, with key players behind the hall’s revamp attending on the night.
Special honour
SKDT’s Claire McFadzean said: ‘It is a really special honour to win this first time award for a project that truly shows community regeneration at its best.
‘We are proud we can finally shout about this and call the Town Hall an award-winning venue. To receive this recognition is great exposure for the town.’
Chairman of the judging panel, Andrew McFarlane of DM Hall Chartered Surveyors, was one of the judges to visit the building back in July. He presented the group with the award on the night.
High calibre
He said: ‘This year saw many high calibre entries across the categories, some with back stories of tenacity and of communities working together which really impressed myself and my fellow judges.
‘Campbeltown Town Hall really stood out and demonstrated how a small community trust has created a catalyst for revitalisation of a whole town centre.’
