Peninver Players pip top spot at festival

LAUGHTER and drama returned to Ardrishaig at the Argyll Dra- ma Festival’s 69th instalment.
Peninver Players Drama Club’s performance of Nearly Departed clinched first place overall, narrowly beating Benderloch and North Connel Drama Club’s production of A Separate Peace by one mark.
It was decided that Janette Hannah’s energetic comic display in Nearly Departed just edged out Benderloch’s Mike Rowell and earned Peninver the trophy.
Adjudicator Dr Paul Dougall said: ‘There was really very little between the two productions, but I had to decide a winner and it came down to the lead performers.’
Four amateur dramatic clubs from around Argyll took to the Ardrishaig Hall stage for the recent two rip-roaring nights of entertainment.
The audiences basked in the fun and frivolity of live stage productions as the casts and crews put on a feast of entertainment.
Dr Dougall added: ‘I’ve had a great time in Ardrishaig for the drama festival and have been impressed with the standard. Each play offered particular challenges to the clubs but the productions were very good.’
Tribute was paid to the late Agnes Jane Gilchrist who was a drama festival stalwart, having attended every festival for its 69-year existence.
