Fabulous festival line-up

-

WHAT may be Scotland’s smallest music festival is tuning up for its 15th instalment.

The Isle of Gigha music festival, the biggest event on the island’s calendar, is set to rock on June 30 and July 1. The festival’s intimate atmosphere and warm welcome attracts top class acts, with 2017 being no exception.

The headliners often swap Gigha for Glastonbury when the event is over, and regularly play Celtic Connections, and this year’s Friday night headliners, Tide Lines and Elephant Sessions, already get rave reviews for their live shows.

Saturday night hosts festival favourite Fred Morrison, who will open the double header concert sets with Sharon Shannon, one of Ireland’s best musicians, who is set to shine with her sparkling and lively show.

Carradale-born piper Lorne MacDougall is almost a festival fixture, having only missed two of the previous celebrations, and playing an integral role in the record-breaking 10th year, piping non-stop for 65 minutes while 50 people danced the Orcadian Strip the Willow. This year, he will lead Saturday night’s ceilidh set.

Camping will be

available for those who really want to get into the festival spirit, and Gigha Hotel and the Boathouse will be dishing up festival

food alongside live music, while handmade pizzas, cooked in a wood oven, will be on offer at the gigs.

With a capacity of only 150 in the village hall venue, the intimate gig must be one of the country’s smallest, and tickets are selling fast.
