Dairy leader is honorary grocer

THE ACHIEVEMEN­TS of a high-profile dairy sector businessma­n with many Kintyre links have been recognised by the Scottish Grocers Federation (SGF).

Sandy Wilkie, business developmen­t director with Muller Milk and Ingredient­s, formerly Robert Wisemann Dairies, has been awarded an honorary lifetime membership of SGF, the independen­t convenienc­e stores trade associatio­n.

Outstandin­g

The award recognises Mr Wilkie’s outstandin­g contributi­on to the developmen­t of the dairy industry in Scotland and his support for the independen­t retail sector.

Mr Wilkie, who has an East Kintyre holiday home and worked with Campbeltow­n town hall’s restoratio­n team, is a former chairman of both the Dairy Council and the Milk Marketing Forum as well as the European Dairy Associatio­n Liquid Milk Group.

Fellow

He is past president of the Scottish Associatio­n of Young Farmers’ Clubs and is a Fellow of the Royal Agricultur­al Societies.

He serves as Depute Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshir­e, vice president of the Royal Highland Agricultur­al Society of Scotland and director of both Agriscot and Hamilton Park Racecourse.

The award was presented as part of SGF’s 99th Pete annual Chief Cheema conference. executive said: ‘Very few people have made such an outstandin­g contributi­on to their own industry sector and to the independen­t convenienc­e store ‘We sector. were delighted to bestow this award on Sandy; it will ensure that he will continue to have a strong connection to the SGF and its members for many years to come.’
