Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell is a keen conservatory viticulturalist. Mr Russell said: ‘We had visitors this afternoon who expressed, as many do, surprise at the profusion of grapes growing in our conservatory. We have got used to them. ‘Year by year this Argyll harvest seems to grow though that has happened only after many years when the vine didn’t look as if it would survive another season. Long may it last, not least because the whole thing provides such a feature and such good shade on a hot day.’ Last Sunday, Mr Russell posted a picture of this year’s bumper crop on to Blipfoto. Mr Russell has submitted 2,962 images, at the rate of one per day, to the photo sharing site originally created by Joe Tree in Edinburgh. It is now a Community Interest Company having launched a crowd funding scheme in 2016 when faced with liquidation. Mr Russell added: ‘I will reach my 3000th Blip in November. But the first 100 or so weren’t consecutive. I will have done eight consecutive years (posting every day) on Hogmanay.’
