Golf club goes up in flames
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought a blaze at Machrihanish Golf Club. Just after lunch on Wednesday, two tenders raced through Campbeltown after reports of a fire in the clubhouse of the world-renowned course opened in 1876. Another two fire engines followed, including the Carradale tender. Flames were seen coming from the kitchen area and smoke poured from the windows of the club steward’s flat. As the Courier went to press, the cause of the fire was not apparent and firefighters were battling to extinguish the blaze.
