The world watches as Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, carries the next royal baby. Speculatio­n is rife about when Her Royal Highness is due to give birth as her blossoming baby bump grows bigger. In Campbeltow­n, the Courier is watching and waiting to hear of any Christmas babies, and is eager to find out who has the first baby in 2019. In this week’s Down Memory Lane, the Courier takes a look back at some of Campbeltow­n’s most memorable births in recent years.

Lara McGeachy

Campbeltow­n Hospital said hello to its first arrival of 2006 when Lara McGeachy was born on January 3. Supported by dad Sean McGeachy, mum Hannah McManus was in labour for 25 hours before Lara was born, weighing 6lbs 15.5oz, at 11.45pm.

Jayden Maguire

With three expectant mothers due to give birth on January 2, it was a question of who would be 2011’s first, but Jayden Maguire beat the rest, arriving at 10.45pm on January 4, weighing 8lb 7oz. Delighted parents Heather Mckinnon and Campbell Maguire, who have a daughter, Dion, told the Courier that they knew they were expecting a boy and always planned to have him in Campbeltow­n.

Aiden McConnachi­e

Born on January 3 at 4.50am, Aiden James McConnachi­e was Campbeltow­n’s first baby of 2012. A first child for parents Hayley Meachem and Steven McConnachi­e, Aiden, who weighed 6lbs 5.5oz, was due on Christmas Day.

Calvin McGougan

Calvin McGougan, born on December 25, 2015, was an extra special Christmas present for parents Nicole McGougan and Mark Scally. Born at 7.42pm, weighing 8lbs 4oz, Calvin was the first baby born at Campbeltow­n Hospital on Christmas Day for 16 years.

Lily Thomson

Born on January 1, 2015, Lily Thomson gave parents Cara Browning and Norman Thomson more reason than most to celebrate on New Year’s Day. Lily, who was due on December 23, was born in Campbeltow­n Hospital at 2.14pm, weighing almost 9lbs.
