Rotary posties’ bags were lighter
The Rotary Club of Campbeltown has seen a decline in demand for its Kintyre postal service as fewer Christmas cards are being sent, writes Mark Davey. Just before Christmas, Rotary members were busy sorting and delivering the annual post which is one of its vital fundraisers. A Rotary spokesperson said: ‘Although this is a huge amount of work, it enables the club to continue the work of helping others locally, nationally and internationally.

‘The total amount of money raised was slightly less that in 2017, as people send fewer cards. ‘It was still a worth-while exercise from a Rotary point of view and although some expenses need to be deducted, it leaves a substantial amount for the club funds, and members would like to thank the public for their continued support. ‘Thanks are also due to the non-Rotarians who helped and without whom the task would have been much greater. ‘One or two of these people need to be named, for their help was substantial. They were: Maureen Mathieson, Brian McClement and Ian Ronald. ‘Help was also given by wives and partners of Rotarians, by honorary Rotarians, and by the shop-keepers who allowed posting boxes to be left on their premises namely Wallpaper Shop, McGeachy Butchers, Keiths Newsagents, Glenbarr Stores and Muneroy Stores Southend. Thank you all and we hope to see you again next Christmas. ‘Once again, Rotarian Ann Gallacher is collecting used Christmas cards. ‘There is a box in Tesco where old cards can be left.’
