Deferred sentence for assault on women

A woman who assaulted two other women while in Campbeltown visiting family at Christmas has had her sentence deferred.

Allana Bruce, 27, of Flat E, 130 Rannock Road, Perth, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman and throwing a stiletto shoe at a man, which travelled past him and hit the woman, to her injury, at Main Street and Shore Street, Campbeltown, as well as assaulting another woman, all on December 27 last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Eoin McGinty told the court the first woman was in a pub, drinking with friends, when Bruce approached her and asked if she had a problem with her.

The woman recognised Bruce from another incident but decided not to interact with her and walked to another part of the pub. Later, Bruce, who has no previous convictions, took off her shoe and threw it at a man but it missed and hit the woman. Bruce grabbed a second woman by her hair and police officers who were on patrol watched her being pulled to the ground.

Defence agent Stephen MacSporran said Bruce wished to apologise to all involved. He said she was intoxicated and her recollection of the incident was limited. Mr MacSporran asked Sheriff Patrick Hughes to defer sentence, given that this was Bruce’s first offence, to show it was a one-off incident.

Deferring sentence until December 12, Sheriff Hughes said: ‘I agree that the appropriate way to deal with this in the first instance is to defer sentence but these are serious incidents and it may be that in six months some financial penalties may be imposed.’
