Concert connects musicians with Dalriada culture

-

Chris Stout and Catriona McKay, who captivated audiences at the recent Isle of Gigha Music Festival, will return to Kintyre in August for the Mull of Kintyre Music Festival’s Mitchell’s Glengyle Dalriada Connections Concert.

The pair will headline the afternoon concert at Campbeltown Heritage Centre on August 25 which celebrates the historic links which were forged during the creation of the ancient Kingdom of Dalriada.

They will be joined on stage by Ceólta, Western Sound, Na Smeòraich, The Ross Conner Trio, Scooter Muse, Frank Rochford and many local and visiting musicians.

Chris Stout and Catriona McKay have their roots in Scottish traditional music and have a sound and live set that is both dynamic and adventurous.

Chris is from Fair Island, one of the Shetland Islands, and Catriona is from Dundee.

They have played together for around 20 years, collaborating on many projects; both are members of the internationally-acclaimed band Fiddlers Bid.

Based in the North of Ireland, Ceólta is an exciting group whose members have many years of experience on the traditional scene.

They produce a vibrant sound, playing an array of instruments on self-penned and traditional arrangements.

Ceólta has three members, Ciaran Mulholland on fiddle, Paul McKernan on Uillean Pipes and Mark Carmichael on Uilleann and Highland pipes as well as guitar, bouzouki and whistles.

Kintyre folk group Western Sound return, having made their debut last year.

Also performing is young five-piece Tarbert-based folk group Na Smeòraich.

The girls have won the Oban folk group competition two years running, came second in the national Mòd under-13 folk group competition last year and were also a support act for Eddie Reader when she performed in Tarbert.

The Ross Conner Trio, Scooter Muse from Alabama USA and Frank Rochford are among the many local and visiting musicians who will also feature at this value-for-money concert which has become one of the hidden gems of the weekend at £12 a ticket, including a whisky miniature.
