Kintyre herds competitio­n showcases top livestock

Kintyre Primestock Breeders’ Associatio­n’s 38th annual herds competitio­n showcased the best cattle the area has to offer.

The Tuesday July 2 event was well supported and the sun shone throughout, meaning an enjoyable day was had by everyone.

There were 12 herds competing under the expert eye of judge George McFadzean, of Woodhead of Mailer, Perth.

Results: Autumn herds: 1 Dippen, 2 East Laggan, 3 Uigle, 4 Killegruer. Best cow: East Laggan. Best team of cows: Dippen. Best calf: 1 Dippen, 2 Uigle, 3 East Laggan. Best team of calves: Dippen.

Spring herds: 1 Kilwhipnac­h, 2 Killocraw, 3 Low Dunasherry, 4 Strathnafa­naig, 5 Rhoin. Best cow: Killocraw. Best team of cows: Killocraw. Best calf: 1 Strathnafa­naig, 2 Kilwhipnac­h, 3 Killocraw. Best team of calves: Rhoin.

Overall prizes: Best team of cows: Killocraw. Langa Salver for best cow: Killocraw. Parker Cup for best calf: Strathnafa­naig. Opposite season calf: Dippen. David Henderson Cup for best team of calves: Rhoin. Rodney J Lines Cup for best yoke: East Laggan. John H Warnock Cup for best overall herd: Kilwhipnac­h.
