Riders trek to the Argyll South Pony Club’s fun day
The Bay Field at Claonaig sparkled in the sun as did the newly topped grass for the Argyll South Pony Club’s annual fun day.
This year there was a healthy number of competitors with some drawn over the water from Arran to enjoy the various equestrian competitions.
Judge Debbie Hay Thorburn had a long day putting the horses and riders through the challenges involved in the Pony Club/Riding Club Horse Classes and everyone learned a thing or two about their riding skills by the end of it.
The show jumping was judged by Anne McArthur and the digital timing equipment meant accurate jump off times for all classes.
The highlight of the jumping was the Argyll 80 qualifier for the final at Kilmartin Show and six riders won their way through to join the six from Mull and four from the Oban area.
The games section was organised by Catriona Ryan and Rosslyn Smith and young and old thoroughly enjoyed the flying gallop finishes to the races.
Altogether it was a successful day and everyone went home tired but happy – especially trophy winners Amy Anderson (Ryan) for the Juniors, Hazel Selfridge (Kieran) and Cerys Baird (Dancer) for the Seniors and Hollie Adamson (Cwmmawr Lexus) for the non-members.
The club’s next open event is the Kilmartin Show on Sunday July 21.
