Gulls ruining shopping

-

I can sympathise with the reader who sent in last week’s letter (Courier, July 5) about gulls attacking their car on the seafront.

I have also noticed that gulls seem to be worse this year. I parked my car on Main Street this week to visit a few shops and returned after a couple of hours to find the entire vehicle covered in bird excrement.

It covered the windscreen, as well as the side windows and paintwork, and was baked on so hard that it would not come off, no matter how much windscreen wash I sprayed on it.

I parked in one of the few areas where drivers are allowed to park for more than one hour – I now realise that it was below the window of the resident who is feeding birds.

I will not be in a hurry to return.

With small town centre shops dependent on customers shopping locally, it is a pity that gulls may ruin that as well.
