DOWN MEMORY LANE
Readers regularly share photographs of ‘the good old days’ with the Courier.
With children around Kintyre settling into six weeks of summer holidays, it is apt that Jim Daniels shared a photograph of youngsters doing the same, more than 60 years ago.
Jim, who himself features in the image with his sister Kathryn, provided all the names of those enjoying the summer of 1953 or 1954 at Meadows Avenue, Campbeltown.
The others, going by their names at the time, are: Marian McGeachy, Nancie Blair, Lizbeth McKiernan, Muriel Ramsay, Elizabeth McGeachy, Margaret McGeachy, Eva McGeachy, Alasdair Blair, Irene Riddell and Jean McKiernan.
Another person able to identify every person in their old photograph is Robert Gatt, who emailed a copy of an old Campbeltown Grammar School netball team to the Courier recently. He said: ‘This is an old photo with my wife in the front, second from the left, Jean Gatt née Stewart.
‘The names of the other lassies are on the back.
‘Good old photo from the olden days in the Wee Toon.’
The other players photographed are: Elizabeth Ralston, Isobel Anderson, Carol Linton, Dorothy McSporran and Sandra McPhail.
Jean Copland from Edinburgh knows two of the faces in the photograph she submitted to the Courier but would like information on who the rest may be.
Her photograph was taken at sheepdog trials, she thinks in the late 1960s, possibly at Kilberry. Jean’s father, Neil MacMaster, and her grandfather, James Keith, are in the image, but Jean wonders: ‘Does anyone know who the others are?’
Another submitted image in which almost everyone is unknown is of a Carradale choir, which looks to have won a competition at a mòd event.
Can anyone put names to any of the unknown faces in these photographs?
