Morag Goodfellow is the new HIE boss for Argyll and the Isles

-

Morag Goodfellow has been appointed area manager for Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) in Argyll and the Islands.

Morag joined HIE in 2009 and has been based within the Argyll and the Islands team for the past nine years, most recently as head of regional development, based in Lochgilphead.

She has played a key role in developing some of Argyll’s recent infrastructure projects such as The Fairmile Building business hub in Dunoon and the European Marine Science Park in Oban.

Originally from Caithness, Morag studied economics at Glasgow University. She completed a master’s degree in land economy before embarking on a career as a chartered surveyor, working in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oban.

Commenting on her new role, she said: ‘I am delighted to be taking up this role, leading the Argyll and the Islands team. I am very fortunate to live and work in such a beautiful region, which has so many natural benefits to help drive our economy.

‘From tourism to whisky, aquaculture to marine science, there are significant opportunities for growth and innovation in all these sectors.

‘There are also challenges, of course, including helping businesses adapt to leaving the EU and attracting new talent to areas still experiencing population declines.

‘I look forward to continuing to work with the team and our partners, including Argyll and Bute Council and North Ayrshire Council. Collaboration is the most effective means of strengthening the economy and community resilience of Argyll and the Islands.’
