Hilarity ensues at Winter Fling
This year’s Winter Fling, Saddell and Carradale Parish Church’s main fundraising event, raised some £3,600.
Held last Saturday, on St Andrew’s Night, the event was an eclectic mix of stories and performances, from the world premiere of a new arrangement ... Saddell and Carradale Parish Church to an absolute mash up of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Three Little Maids.
MC for the night Alan Milstead welcomed just over 100 to the hall before asking Reverend Steve Fulcher to say grace.
Alan then introduced Jane Dunbar’s performance of Springhill Jack, after which Niall and Emma Macalister Hall, assisted by Su Black of Beinn an Tuirc Distillers, mixed and served Kintyre Gin cocktails for all.
Niall Gemmill played some tunes on his bagpipes before dinner – haggis, neeps and tatties – was served. Each table had a little Kilkerran whisky to whet the haggis.
After dinner, Gordon Abernethy told stories and tales reflecting St Andrew’s Night.
Once applause died down and conversation at the tables recommenced, Hamish Hunter stood and started to sing a rendition of Carradale Glen. After each line, a new person stood to add their voice until there were nine singing, and others joined in – a flash mob hit Carradale.
A number of others joined in for another song before Wum Semple took to the stage to conduct the auction of some 15 items donated to the church. A small raffle was also part of the entertainment.
Alan Walker assisted Wum before retelling a few stories after which he introduced the earth-stopping performance of Three Little Maids – regretfully no one could hear the performance as there was so much laughter.
After some music by Alex MacKinnon and Christine Ritchie, Jane Dunbar gave another short performance before the evening ended with dance and song.
The organisers would like to thank all the local businesses who contributed to raffle and auction and a very successful event.
