Pupils U13s celebrating after two wins in a row

-

The Campbeltown Pupils U13s are celebrating this week after winning two matches in a row in division C of Glasgow and District Youth Football League.

The young players were at Campbeltown’s all weather pitch early last Sunday ahead of the noon kickoff in their home fixture against Haldane United.

The U13s knew what was needed against the strong travelling side, starting right from the whistle and gaining confidence throughout the match.

The team is beginning to gel well together and there is a good level of understanding between the players.

The Pupils went into half time 2-2 and a word from coach Rhys Blair, who told them if their level of play continued they were in with a chance of winning, spurred them on.

Rhys said: ‘Not only did they do what was asked but they executed it perfectly.

Despite rough tackles, they didn’t let anything dampen their team spirit.’

In the end the Pupils won the match 6-4, a home win the week after an away victory.

The Sunday before, the U13s travelled through torrential rain for a fixture against Helensburgh.

It took the Kintyre side 10 minutes to get warmed up, but they opened the scoring and eventually won the match 5-3.

Rhys said: ‘The football was fantastic.

‘The team got into the swing of it and the plays and runs they made were outstanding. They have set the bar for themselves now and need to keep it up.’

This Sunday, the Pupils U13s are at home to Helensburgh, with a 2pm kick-off.
